Kayaking by Emerald Cave

Exploring Emerald Cove

Exploring the Emerald Cove is often done through kayaking experiences, from a half-day kayak tour leaving from willow beach to full-day Kayak tours. While kayaking tours are the primary way to explore Emerald Cove, people can also explore on a paddleboard, hydro bike, or tandem kayaks. As most visiting the Las Vegas strip often look for an escape but do not have a rental car we offer a Hotel Pick-up & shuttle service from many locations off the strip.

The Emerald Cove offers mesmerizing emerald-green waters reflecting off the calm waters by the entrance, earning its distinctive name. As the sunlight pierces through the water at the cove entrance openings, it reflects off of the thing floor of algae at the bottom of the Colorado River. The light reflection of the algae causes a dramatic play of light and shadow, making the clear waters shimmer like a precious gem. This ethereal display leaves visitors in awe, surrounded by nature’s captivating beauty.

Crystal Clear Water with a green glow

While many call the Emerald Cove well a cave, it is in fact a grotto, spanning about 20 feet wide and 30 feet long. This fact does not detour people especially once they see the beautiful shimmering waters and the photos they get coming out of the grotto. The name Emerald Cove is more of a nod to the grand views it offers as you look past the green shimmering light and across the way at the towering Black Canyon Walls.

Location of Emerald Cove

Nestled between Nevada and Arizona, the grotto finds its home on the Colorado River. This prime geographical location is more than just a backdrop; it enhances every visitor’s experience. The cove benefits from the natural landscapes that surround it. Towering Canyon Walls and crystal-clear water play a role in this gem’s charm.

The Emerald Cove is 2.2 miles upstream of Willow Beach and is on the Arizona side of the Colorado River. Primarily accessed via Kayak Tours, this places the Emerald Cove about 10 miles downstream from the Hoover Dam. Kayaking from Willow Beach, you will pass Bob’s speech home to the historic River Gauger’s Station house, a cable cart passing, a catwalk along the black canyon wall, and finally, you’ll find yourself across from a water level tower used by the River Gauger’s in the 1920s.
