KAYAKING IS THE NEW AND IMPROVED CORPORATE TEAM BUILDING

Let’s say you’re sitting at home watching a regular game where the team wins the big prize. They come together to celebrate, and you’re witnessing teammates talking about how proud they are of each other, a coach who reflects leadership, and families running over to join in on their happiness. This group of people didn’t just win a game. They were displayed to the world as the best team. However, every individual wasn’t added onto this group because they were just qualified or easily compatible the first day of tryouts. They learned each other’s strengths and weaknesses and created a powerful bond. A bond that overcomes whatever, together. If you take a step back to observe your company’s culture, is this what you would hope for them to be? If you’re not satisfied with what you see, it’s time to take a step into team building exercises.

Kayaking is a very uncommon form of team building. It’s definitely unique, fun, and questionable on how this activity will help you understand your colleagues. I think what we need to understand first is why team building is even important.

The purpose of this method is to produce highly motivated employees who don’t lack communication. They’re encouraged to cooperate because it’s easier to solve problems together. They’re becoming employees that collaborate out of respect for each other. It’s proven that company’s with high-performing teams are more successful, and can see a large boost when they are starting from the bottom.

Introducing a new method to bond with your employees will create a manner of value among them. Your colleagues like to be aware of the company culture because it’s an impactful reason to arrive at a workplace they are proud to be in. This allows employees to bring creativity, share opinions, and build trust. When you share this new experience with them, they’ll understand that you want them to feel valued.

Kayaking may not seem to be the best personal activity. But I recommend this experience because there are unthinkable challenges that come with it. This is perfect for the skilled and unskilled. When people work together or share new experiences, relationships are built and teamwork is fostered. In return, they’ll overcome challenges and reduce stress in the workplace. Even if you have kayaked before, doing it with your  colleagues will be an excellent opportunity for you to understand each individual in a way you probably never did before.

You will learn to collaborate with each other in a low-stress and fun environment while exploring the natural world in a truly unique way. Your employees might be coming in as just individuals just trying to learn how to paddle. But they’ll come out as one group sharing stories and laughter about the most rewarding experience.

Strong teams are important in businesses of all sizes. However, many businesses focus on making customers happy and forget their people are their greatest asset. Slicing through the waters will develop a lifetime bond. If you are looking for the best idea for team building, or any other corporate event, a paddling trip will be your best bet!

Fall/Winter in Southern Nevada: Best Times to Explore Our State Parks!

Let’s take a trip to Nevada’s oldest State Park, Valley of Fire. A very unique location, where the rocks appear as blazing embers when the sun sets. This nature preserve covers 46,000 acres, with an elevation of 1,320-3,009 ft, and is about 50 miles away from Las Vegas.

The State Park’s name is derived from the red stone formations, which formed from shifting sand dunes 150 million years ago. Interestingly, per lore, the name also got it from a AAA official who was traveling the road and saw what looked like a region on fire. Besides the incredible sandstone formations, the park is also a great place to see wildlife and interesting desert botanical species. A stop at the visitor’s center is recommended, where you can pick up trail maps, snacks and water. The rangers can answer most questions and love talking about the park, much like our experienced guides.

Valley of Fire State Park is a good destination during any season, but the cooler months are the most attractive time to visit this beautiful spot.  In summer months the desert heat is too intense for a prolonged stay due to the sun being much stronger. This does make for longer sunsets and more vibrant colors if you can beat the heat. Spring and fall draw the most visitors for its tepid and adaptable weather, but winter is the quiet season when the park is least busy. Winter in the Valley of Fire is a cold but short season perfect for exploring all that this park has to offer, just make sure to bundle up!

If you are visiting the park in the winter, you’ll definitely want to dress in layers. When visiting the park in early January, the temperatures are in the low 40s (Fahrenheit) in the morning and mid 60s in the afternoons. The mornings are very cold so bundle up in undershirts, sweaters, thick leg warmers, coats, and beanies. As far as shoes, you’ll want to wear anything capable of trekking through the sand.

We would love to show you around Red Rocks on a guided tour where our guides will provide MUCH more info about this beautiful park. We know where all the best picture spots are, and most importantly, we provide the safety and security for you and your party to enjoy your trip. For locals we can provide a different viewpoint on your favorite hikes as well, so come join us for an unforgettable hike.

ACHIEVING PHYSICAL BENEFITS WITH KAYAKING

It’s more than just going outside to join nature and paddle around as a little fun activity. Of course, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that either! This is about taking a hold of the physical benefits kayaking offers, while exploring a foreign place authentically.

SAY “BYYEE” TO THE GYM AND MEET YOUR WEIGHT GOAL BY PADDLING!

It almost seems like there is no way you can cut a couple pounds with just sitting, paddling, and sunbathing. So let’s start with understanding our bodies.

Your body needs a certain amount of calories everyday to perform our daily needs. Losing weight happens when you create a caloric deficit, meaning you have to consume fewer calories that your body requires, or burn more than what you eat. For example, if your body needs about 2000 calories and you only consume 1700, 300 calories will be your deficiency. This will force your body to take advantage of the deficit, and begin to burn stored fat, thus weight loss comes into play.

When you’re kayaking at an average speed of 5 mph, you’re burning just about 500 calories per hour! What could be better than losing weight with such seamless movements in a short amount of time?

INCREASING MUSCLE STRENGTH WITH AN EASY FLEX

Evidently, your arms will become more toned since you mostly use them to get motion in your kayak. As you paddle, it works as an extension to flexing your upper body muscles; the back, shoulders, and chest. One mile of paddling is equivalent to 500 strokes. Our famously chosen half day tour is about a four mile stretch, meaning you’re doing about 2000 strokes!

Even though I said we use our arms mostly, that doesn’t mean that leg day gets left behind! Movements that involve your lower limbs to maneuver your kayak, or keeping your balance, is just as significant. Toned legs also come with the package!

This activity will also engage your abdomen, obliques, and lower back. In every stroke, you will be contracting your abs and working on your lower back. The twisting motion is what activates your obliques to flex, practicing a great hobby to sit up right, while keeping your balance all at once. I understand how this all seems a little too much in one sitting, but I assure you that this all comes naturally like walking. So don’t overthink it, and you’ll be showing off your Hercules-like strength in no time!

BUILD YOUR ENDURANCE

Because kayaking is done for hours, this allows you to improve your stamina, meaning you can withstand extended periods of effort without getting easily fatigued. Performing moderately intense exercises – kayaking – at least three times a week can increase energy levels by 20%. Not only does this benefit you, but enables you to do the activity longer, while increasing the energy you can spend on daily activities

IMPROVE YOUR HEART HEALTH

You can consider kayaking to be an aerobic sport or even a cardiac exercise. After all, this will strengthen your heart muscle and improve its efficiency to pump blood. This will also improve circulation and increase the total amount of red blood cells in the body.

Kayaking increases heart rate to a healthy level. If you consistently perform this activity, you’re heart will grow stronger
