Valley of Fire State Park is a breathtaking wonderland and perfect for an amazing hike across all levels of fitness! Over 150 million years of fault, uplifting, and erosion has shaped this bold-colored landscape, turning this landscape from sand dunes to the beautiful natural scenery we have today.
The Valley of Fire gets its name from the reddish-pink sandstone formations that define its limits. These spectacular sandstone rock formations formed from great shifting sand dunes during the age of dinosaurs. As the centerpiece of the park’s attractions, these geologic features sometimes seem to be on fire when reflecting the ray of the setting sun. Gaze across natural landscapes as the many shades of light bring out the Rainbow Vista in the park.
The red sandstone formations bring out an adventurous spirit making this hike scale for all levels of fun from Rock climbing & rock scrambling to a Friendly hike. This state park features many amazing views to discover from rock art (ancient petroglyphs) dating back 3,000 years to colorful natural rock formations that will have you pulling out your camera at every stop.
Your first journey is White Dome Loop, a 1.1-mile moderate hike, with a beautiful slot canyon and amazing rock formations. From there we will move on to Mouses Tank Canyon, a 1/2 mile easy hike, with many ancient Native American petroglyphs and more colorful rock formations..
Your third stop is the Visitor’s Center where you may enjoy the many geological and wildlife exhibits, plus a great gift shop! For an extra fee, we will provide lunch. After the Visitor’s Center, you’ll make a few short stops for photos, including Atlatl Rock and Seven Sisters, and then we will head back to your hotel.
